On this day in 1974 Ronald Defeo Jr. killed his mother, father, two brothers and two sisters inspiring the film The Amityville Horror. On the evening of November 13th, Defeo ran into a local pub claiming that his parents had been shot, patrons followed him back to his home nearby finding the bodies of his dead parents. But further inspection of the house the bodies of his siblings were found dead lying on their stomachs in their beds. The police took Defeo to their station for protection and questioning, but upon questioning Defeo’s story had many inconsistency’s. Defeo soon plead guilty to all the murders and was sentenced to life in prison without parole. But as the case garnered more publicity after the success of the film authorities believed some of his story still did not line up, as the murders were done too quickly for one person. Throughout the years Defeo’s story has changed, in 1986 he claimed his mother had killed his siblings before he killing her. It is still unclear the true chain of events that lead to the murders with many believing different conspiracy theories.
