Nick Leeson extradited

Nick Leeson extraditedOn November 2, 1995 Nick Leeson derivatives broker for Barings Bank, was extradited back from Frankfurt for gambling away close to a £ 1 billion GBP in investor’s money after earning himself close to £ 10 m. Once Leeson had realized he had tanked the company he fled their offices in Singapore leaving only a note stating that he was “sorry.” Known to be a stable and confident broker, this massive scheme had confused Friends and colleagues who knew Leeson. Missing for close to a year Leeson, resurfaced in an airport in Changi, wearing gym clothes and looking rather relaxed. Leeson was eventually sentenced to 6 and a half years in prison, and was released in 1999. He has since been the subject of the film Rogue Trader starring Ewan McGregor and a documentary by Adam Curtis.
