On this day thieves executed a diamond at Brussel’s airport, getting away with $50 million USD in loot. The thieves cut the perimeter fence at the airport, and sieged an outgoing plane on the tarmac. They had access to vehicles resembling police cars, and from what many believe, insider information. The plane was traveling to Switzerland, and had been loaded with the diamonds just before take-off.
There were believed to be eight robbers split up between the two vehicles, each armed with machine guns, and well disguised as policemen. Infiltrating the plane, they held the passengers and the crew under gun point as they went through the cargo on the plane. Once the loot was found the thieves drove off, without a shot being fired. The diamonds nor the robbers have since been found or identified.
